From an article in Wales Online:-
Machynlleth Comedy Festival is the latest big name event in Wales to be cancelled due to the continuing coronavirus outbreak.
Organisers of the festival, which attracts some of the biggest names in comedy and thousands of fans from all over the UK and beyond, made the announcement on Tuesday morning. They said they were not willing to take the risk of bringing as many as 8,000 people into a small market town in Powys, which only has a population of around 2,500.
Among those due to perform this year included Joe Lycett, Nish Kumar and Josh Widdicombe.
A spokesman for the festival said: “Due to the current Covid-19 Coronavirus crisis it is with huge sadness that we must cancel this year’s Machynlleth Comedy Festival. We know this will be a huge disappointment for all those who were planning to attend, and we share in that disappointment. Please know that we have not taken this decision lightly, but under current guidance and information we felt we couldn’t proceed in good conscience. We take our responsibilities to the town of Machynlleth, our audience, artists and crew very seriously, and therefore accept that bringing 8,000 people to the town would currently pose an unnecessary risk to public health.”
